Committees

The National Association of Fellowships Advisors (NAFA) is an all volunteer organization.  Members come from colleges and universities, serving as higher education administrators, staff and faculty.  The NAFA Executive Board – President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer are elected by the membership to serve to a term of four years. Members of the Executive Board are appointed by the President to serve on specific committees as determined by their interest and expertise. The President invites additional participants from the general membership to serve on standing, ad-hoc, and subcommittees.

Members interested in serving are encouraged to communicate their interest to the Board. Committee appointments are for two years.

Volunteers are involved as board members and as members-at-large in the following Committees.

Members who are elected to the NAFA Board serve on specific committees as determined by the President. Board tenure is for four years, while committee appointments are for two years. The President also invites additional participants from the general membership to serve on standing, ad-hoc, and subcommittees. Nominations & Elections:

  • develops lists of candidates for the offices of Vice President/President-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer, and for seats on  the Executive Board

  • supervises ballot count at biennial meeting & certifies election results to President & Board members

Conference Planning:

  • plans & organizes biennial national conference as well as other special programs & meetings
     
  • recommends conference budget to Board
     

Finance:

  • oversees NAFA revenues and expenditures

  • makes recommendations to Board for use of reserve funds

  • provides advice on financial implications of significant actions

Membership:

  • engages in outreach to expand membership to other relevant organizations and non-member institutions, including those serving constituencies under-represented in fellowships competitions

  • develops guidelines for different kinds of membership

  • promotes & administers NAFA Collaboration Grant

Best Practices, Consultation & Assessment:

  • creates & maintains best-practice documents and standardized forms for NAFA members

  • conducts on-site program assessments for member organizations

Publications & Technology:

  • oversees production and maintenance of website content

  • produces publications for NAFA members

Study Travel:

  • plans NAFA domestic and international study trips for non-conference years

Summer Workshops:

  • plans summer workshops for non-conference years
