5th Biennial NAFA Conference, Building Foundations, Building Partnerships: Paving Avenues for Success, July 15-18, 2009, Seattle, WA

The 5th Biennial NAFA Conference began Wednesday, July 15, 2009 with Pre-Conference Events which included Workshops for New Advisors and Workshops for Exiting Members on Professional Development. Workshops and panel presentations by NAFA university representatives addressed techniques for forging partnerships more locally, on our own campuses. Creating allies, linking scholarships to undergraduate research initiatives, and reaching out to students are a few of the themes to be addressed.

NAFA recognized the invaluable support given to the organization by Gordon Johnson, Provost of the Gates Cambridge Trust and President of Wolfson College & Deputy Vice-Chancellor for the University of Cambridge, England. We were also pleased to have two conference speakers: Anne Udall, Executive Director for the Lee Institute and the Vice-Chair of the Udall Foundation; and William Gates, Sr -- Co-Chair for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Trustee for the Gates Cambridge Trust, Serves on the Board of Regents at the University of Washington, Co-Founder of Preston, Gates & Ellis, LLP known today as K&L Gates.
